This story was submitted to the ´óÏó´«Ã½ peoples war with the permission of Thomas McCullough. The interviewer was Brian Morgan. The author fully understands the site's terms and conditions

One outstanding character I will never forget was Regimental Sergeant Major P.J. Kilduff of the 2nd BN Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. While we were in a nasty place known as the fortress at Anzio he would shout out aloud ‘stretcher bearers, another row of sandbags’ whenever shells landed anywhere near him. At Isernia he had a sentry marching his beat and facing him. Paddy had a full length mirror to remind him that he was a victorious British soldier. This event was recorded in an 8th army newspaper showing the sentry doing his beat.
