I was living in Hardingstone during the Second World War and we had two evacuees from London that came to stay with us, I can remember going to meet them when they first came. I was about twelve years old when the war first started so I was aware of what was going on, I can remember hearing the first air-raid siren on the radio. We had a big garden and was able to grow our own food so we did not only have to rely on rations, we kept some hens and would swap their eggs for other food.
