In 1939 I was 8yrs old. I lived in Casson St. in Crewe. I remember the sweets were rationed aswell as lots of other food stuffs.
My Uncle Leslie was an M.P in North Allerton, Yorkshire. He told me a story of a German Prisoner of War who said Heil Hitler everytime Uncle took him his meals, so after a while Uncle Les was so fed-up of this, he threw his breakfast over the prisoner! He never said Heil Hitler again.
I once cut my hand after falling over in an air-raid shelter and I still have the scar today.
