"I think the Canadians were the first to come, in the village area where my parents lived. Then, afterwards when America came into the war, you had the Americans, used to come. There were a lot of, there was training station for the Air Force, and you got a lot of young fellas training to be pilots from South Africa as well. They used to come when they were off duty to the village pub, and, they didn鈥檛 always have beer there, but whatever there was to drink they would come and have. Some of the people had to take them, billet them, because they hadn鈥檛 got sleeping accommodation in the camp for everyone. My parents had a young man from South Africa, they had another one Polish chappie, an Australian, and for awhile after the war they kept in touch. Everybody just pulled together and did their bit."
