I was working as a hairdresser in Rothbury and went home home to visit my parents in Newbiggin (Jubilee Terrace). When I got off the bus in Newbiggin my Dad met me.We were going home when a policeman stopped us.He said we couldn't go any further. A plane had dropped a bomb and all the roofs in Jubilee Terrace had been blown off and the windows smashed. We all had to live in the dining room because that was the only habitable room. We could use one bedroom but we had no glass in the windows for six months-only cardboard. After that happened we got one of those table shelters because before that we hadn't bothered. Another day there was a very rough sea and, from my bedroom window, I could see something bobbing up and down in the waves. It was a bomb. The police came round and told us to open all our windows so they couldn't get blown in. Someone had to come from Rosyth to defuse the bomb.
