Return To Minturno 60 years on.
This is the latest photograph to enter the Kilgallen family archive - the modern jargon for what began life as "Uncle John's shirt box under the settee"!
It is my 2004 (60th anniversary) tribute to my dear father. I took his crucifix, prayer book, and studio portrait back to his grave site in the Minturno Commonwealth Military Cemetery between Rome and Naples on the banks of the River Garigliano. The War Graves Commission Register there records his name, age, rank and number, and says that he was the son of Patrick and Mary Anne. It also records that he was the husband of Nora (nee Browne)of Ravenfield, Yorkshire.
IT DOES NOT RECORD THAT HE WAS THE FATHER OF PATRICK ANTHONY (age 2). Let it also be recorded here that he would have been very proud of his legacy:
Grandsons Sean Patrick, Guy Charles & Liam Jon, and his first Great-Grandchildren Charlotte Elizabeth and Andrew Patrick.
WE WILL REMEMBER THEM.
