A recollection of the Second World War.

When Bill Oddie talked about nightingales a few evenings ago, it brought back a vivid memory for me from the summer of 1942.

I was staying at St Ives in Huntingdonshire then and my husband Eric, who was Trenchard's Brat 560870, was stationed at nearby RAF Wyton. He worked with aero engines all his life.

The radio was on that evening which I am remembering and I was looking forward to hearing nightingales in a Surrey wood. All I heard were bombers going over. They sounded terrible. It was the night when we sent over a thousand bombers over Germany. However did the air crews cope?

I have always hoped and prayed that this world could be at PEACE.
