Story One
1942 approx Barbara has memories of living near a large mansion house (Ravenscroft) in Stockport Cheshire. In one of the largest chimneys in the house owls lived. The path of the owl was between the two houses. The owls’ favourite perch was in the tree above the pig’s bins. She remembers that the owls became very adept at taking of the lid off of the pig bin to get at the scraps. Everyone ‘donated’ to the bin.
Story two
She remembers lying in bed listening to the drone of the Germany airplanes (who targeted the viaduct at Stockport). Barbara’s mother got fed up of moving into the shelter and if the sound of the sirens did not get her out of bed so Barbara knew she would just have to stay put.
On one particular night there was a very loud bang. A bomb had been dropped. It landed on someones green house but actually all the windows in her house shattered. The only thing that worried her mother was that the budgie was ok.
