I have decided to put the final chapter to my Uncle's stories that has appeared on this site. I regrettfully have to say that this man, my soul mate passed away on 15 December 2005 after a hard struggle with him trying to fight one more battle, but unfortunately this was too much for him.
Bob had started writing his stories about before the Second World War and then about his capture at St Valery on 12 June 1940 and then having to spend 5 years as a Prisoner of War. By reading of his accounts you will be able to see that he was a survivor and for all that he went through at that time in his life.
His life was never easy, he always had to fight for what he believed was right, not only for himself but for others, if they were getting a raw deal out of life. But Bob never asked for anything in return oly their friendship.
Bob had taken nearly 65 years to get him to write his stories on this site because the memories were still too painful to put down. But he started to write and then he follwed it from when he was born in 1918 up to the time that he had been demobbed from the Armed Services. There was a lot of details which he could not put down on paper, because people would not beleive that these atrocities had gone on whist a Prisoner in German hands. He had suffered greatly with those memories and even still at the time of his death.
Bob's last wish to me was to try and get his stories to be published into a book so that others could read the truth about what had happened to Bob in the Second World War, and not the "jazzed up" version which has so often been portrayed by the movie people. I am going to try my hardest to fulfil Bob's wishes as he had campaigned for so long to ttry and recognition for the forgotten men that had been left at St Valery, fighting a rear guard action to enable the landing at Dunkirk to be carried out. After that, these men, that had been left at St Valery, many lost their ives, some were wounded and some had been taken as Prisoners-of War to live worse than cattle in the hands of the Germans.
So if anyone has any information or advice on how I could go about trying to make Bob's dream a reality please get back to me. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
GOD BLESS YOU BOB AND I HOPE THAt YOU ARE NOW AT PEACE SWEET DREAMS WITH ALL MY LOVE AND I MISS YOU SO MUCH XX
