Nightmare of WW2
We left Ealing Broadway station, not knowing where we were going, even our parents didn鈥檛 know where we were going. It was all hush-hush. We left with just a haversack and a gas mask. I was an only child, very nervous and frightened and I was evacuated to Weston. Once we arrived we were taken around the streets of Weston in an open top lorry and just deposited on people who had any spare rooms. We were moved about from digs to digs, some nice, some not so nice. We only had crisps for midday lunch, I can remember that, but when my parents came to visit there was a full scale meal on the table. I was there for three years. My last address was with two religious old ladies who sent me home because I was too cheeky and impudent, that鈥檚 what they said! I came home to London just in time for the flying bombs, V1s and V2s, which was very frightening鈥t was horrendous hearing the engine stop, but if you heard the bang you knew it hadn鈥檛 hit you.
