Lance Corporal Alexander Barr 193 Field Ambulance R.A.S.C.

DAYS COME AND GO

‘Tis midnight and another day has gone
The crowded hours have swiftly fled
And still the ‘Dogs of War’ howl on,
The people dully mourn their dead.

Why should it be, why should men maul and kill
God surely meant the world to live in peace
Alas, the Devil seems to flourish still,
And shall until man’s lust for gain shall cease.

But still, when midnight comes, a day is born
What shall it bring, we hope, although we fear,
The hope, with passing years, has grown forlorn,
But still we hope the dawn of peace is near.

When peace does come at last we must ensure
Man’s blood no more shall crimson dye the sod,
To end the sad world’s ills, there’s just one cure
We’ll conquer yet, if we’ll just trust in God.
