An Occupation Wedding
Edited Transcript of Margaret Le Cras interviewing Mrs Evelyn Bryce
Evelyn Bryce. My sister got married early in the war, I forget now just when it was, they got married, and they went to the [ ] and of course a young German went and said to her, 鈥漈hrow away your wedding ring and come with me鈥, I don鈥檛 know where, so she got frightened, so we moved house, and we went to live down the other place, a big farm house. She got married at Emmanuel. We went to Grut to have the photos, and it was horse and carriage, and it was October, but it was a scorching day, and on the way back, I had a livery and we went out to St Peters for the reception, we had crab, and I loved crab, shanker, and I couldn鈥檛 eat any of that,
I鈥︹︹. But people still went to a lot of trouble, eh, going all the way from St Saviours all the way into Town just to have your wedding photos. People don鈥檛 do that now because the photographer comes to you.
Evelyn Bryce. But that was the only transport, horse and carriage. I remember going into Town once in a horse and carriage, but it was boring, really, it was such a long drawn out journey.
