This story has been contributed by Val POtter of Age Concern Hellifield. It was originally contributed to Age Concern in 1990.

Mrs. Coates' family were coal dealers, so she was busy in the firm in Hellifield which once was Bobby Riseley's auction rooms and has since been sold and converted into houses. Her husband and his brother worked with her - their two children were too small to work as they were still at school. Mrs Coate's in laws owned the firm, Joe Coates and Sons. They lived in the same bulding.
