I was standing watching the celebrations outside Town Hall in Chelmsford town centre. When a drunken sailer decided he wanted to climb up the lampost and i started to watch. When he got down he started to run backwards with his arms spread and i got whacked right on the nose.
I used to live in number 80 Marconi road also and they used to have a balloon protecting Marconis and Hoffmans factory. But every time the balloon came down it took my Mothers chimenys down with it, she wasnt to happy.
Another time, my late stepfater used to send me off to whales everytime the bombing got bad. i was satnding on a coal heap when three welsh bullies came and took my things. When i went back to Whales when i was around 8 or 9 i saw the same boys who took my things going to the school I was supposed to be at, so i didnt go to school there i missed 3months of education.
I got boyles from traveling to and from whales "carbunkels" thats what they were called so when my Mother saw them she chased me with a bread poltis to get the puss out.
My late Brother put his age up to get inoto the essex regiment, he went tobruke, he was Lance Coperal Hector Smith at the time, his squad was surrounded. They tried three times to get them out so he led the party and got all the troops out. He ended up as a sergent. Three months later they say he was taken through a mine feild and killed. Others say he was shot while trying to rescue some1. He is now in a grave in libiya. Hes featured in the book Turbrukke revisted.
