JAMES EDWARD 1915 to 2001 was our father.
When I was around 4yrs old and my sister pat was six ,dad came home from the war and used to sit down with mum and tell us great stories.At least thats all we thought they were ,just made up stories about how he crawled into a building after dark for safety and fell asleep not really knowing where he was, the following morning
he woke up and found that he had been asleep at the side of a group of dead me.
He also spoke of lighting his cigaret from the volcano Etna which I must admit, up to reading it on this website about royal engineers going up the volcano, I really didnt beleive him .but I do now.Dad was a motorbike rider/machanic. He didnt fight as far as i Know but rode on his motorbike to scout places before the army moved in.He stayed with a italian family for a time during the war and wrote to them long after the war had finished.I also found out from my mother reasently that dad was an m.c while serving in the army and used to teach dancing.He was in the eighth army under montgomery.we count ourselves very lucky because our dad came back alive.
