After France we didn't know where we were going but had to hand in all our lorries because they were not the right colour and were given sand coloured, American GMCs so we thought we were going to the desert. After putting them on board a ship in Liverpool we came back and never saw them again. Two days later we were taken down to the docks at Liverpool on a passenger ship called 'the Warwick castle' and we sailed that night to join the convoy up to Scotland and when the convoy was formed we sailed across the Atlantic to Canada. We had one two scares going across-German submarines! We arrived in Halifax,Nova Scotia at dawn.In the middle of the night we hurried onto an American ship, the Aurazaba. America was not in the war.We sailed to MonteDeViroimmediately though we didn't know where we were going at this time. They wouldn't allow us ashore so we had to wear white tops while we were on the boat instead of army shirts so they thought we were American sailors. While we were there the large German battleship Grafspey sailed in all smashed up and the sailors went ashore and two days later a boat came and the Grafspey started to sail but after about about 2 miles we saw some explosions on board and she started to get lower in the water and she sank and the Captain shot himself. His name was Captain Lansdorf. We then sailed onto Africa.
