I was a small child living in Durrington in Wiltshire during the War, in a tiny one up and one down cottage. One night I was in bed with my Mum when I said to her 鈥淭here鈥檚 someone coming through the window鈥. She said 鈥淒on鈥檛 be silly.鈥 and I said 鈥淵es 鈥 they鈥檝e just knocked your pot over!鈥 I said 鈥淟isten 鈥 they鈥檙e coming up the stairs鈥 and she said 鈥淲ho鈥檚 that?鈥 and the reply was 鈥淲ho the bloody hell do you think it is!鈥 It was my father and he had to go and report to the police station the next morning 鈥 I think it must have been him returning from Dunkirk.
