I went home for lunch in the middle of what I thought was an ordinary schoolday. I heard a German aircraft go over but thought nothing of it it until I arrived with my friends back at school after lunch. One entire side of the building had been shot at by the German aircraft's machine-guns! The windows had been reinforced at the beginning of the war with chicken wire to stop them shattering but they were covered in bullet holes. Fortunately it happened while everyone was at home for lunch so nobody was hurt. The good thing about it was that we got the rest of the day of school while they repaired the damage!
