Taken in a "banjo" in Canonsleigh Road Becontree Dagenham during a party celebrating VE day. The families in the photograph include Walkinshaw, Wheatley, Jordon, Male, Wootten, Aubery, Bulmer, Monk, Cole,Ellis, Parker and Ginger. I would be very interested to know if anyone recognizes themself or there relations
I only remember a few things about the war as a 5 year old at the end of the hostilities. I recall the house windows being blown in for the second time in a week. My father throwing me to the pavement and covering me with his body when a doodle bug fell silent and landing about a 100 ft away.Sitting under the table in the Morrison shelter listerning to bombs dropping. A large peice of shrapnel stuck in the class room ceiling. Waking up in the morning to find the house at the bottom of our back garden had disappeared. The VE party was wonderful we had never seen so much food and drink and every one happy. I have two photos of the festivities and would really like to know if any of the people in them are still around.
