I was born in Forest Gate London 4th Aug 1939 and Christened on the day the war broke out 3rd September in Stratford. My family moved to Becontree Essex when I was nine months old. My dad was in a reserved occupation so became an ARP my mother looked after me. I attended Monteagle School from the age of 4 to 11 during which there was many close shaves for our family. Shrapnel in the ceiling of our infants class, just one of those occassions As for all the families in the area bombs falling, houses and factories being blown up, our windows all being blown in regularly, nights in a damp air raid shelter or under the dinner table in the Morrison shelter with bits of the roof falling, everyone suffered the same.
