I worked in a soup factory in Netherfield Road, and afterwards in a munitions factory. I was in Spellow Lane when the public urinal was hit by a bomb but managed to escape the consequences by running away very quickly. Spratt's factory used to make a variant of their dog biscuits for the soldiers! Children going to school had to carry gas masks, which were issued in cardboard cases.
