Railings, what railings?
There are no railings.
All requisitioned - - - all gone - - - to the war.
All save ours.

Ours stand tall.
Spared the reduction to bomb or shell.
Spared to remain.
There to support the elderly or strong!

Our house, the only house with railings
- - - envy of the street - - -
Focus of stares and sneers - - -
For theirs had gone, gone to the scrap heap of war.

Ours stayed to celebrate the peace, secure for years to come.
