Warwickshire supports ´óÏó´«Ã½ Website for World War 2

Warwickshire’s libraries and county record office are set to support a new national project run by the ´óÏó´«Ã½ to focus on World War Two. The Beeb have launched a website dedicated to memories of the war and sessions are being held across the county to encourage people to come along and input their memories.

Tin Hat Tuesdays and Wartime Wednesdays will run throughout May and June at five venues in Warwickshire to help add stories to the website.

´óÏó´«Ã½ WW2 project, People’s War, is devoted to collecting people’s stories in a lasting archive to be used as an educational resource and enduring tribute to the war generation, as part of the ´óÏó´«Ã½ History website.

Whether you were a child or an adult, at home or abroad, every story is part of the nation’s history and plays a vital part in helping future generations understand the sacrifices made by a nation at war. Stories can be added at the People’s War website: www.bbc.co.uk/ww2

Tin Hat Tuesdays will be run at Leamington Library on every Tuesday morning throughout May and June from 10am until 12pm.

Meanwhile people will be able to visit Stratford Library and the County Record Office for Wartime Wednesdays running every Wednesday in May and June from 10am until 12pm.

Nuneaton Library’s sessions will run Wednesday 4, 11, 18 and 25 May from 10am until 12pm whilst Bedworth Library’s events will run on Wednesday 8, 15 and 22 June from 10am until 12pm.

Lesley Kirkwood, Warwickshire Local Studies Librarian said: "We are delighted to be involved in this fascinating project. At all of these venues volunteers and staff will be on hand to help you add your story. So you can either phone ahead to let us know you are coming or just drop in and we will be delighted to listen to your story and help you add it to this fascinating site."

Through the People's Network of free internet access, in any of our 32 libraries and County Record Office members of the public can come in and access the website where they can contribute, or read and research any of the stories covering the Second World War.

If you ask a member of staff they will be happy to log you onto the website or you can access the site yourself and personalise your own contribution.

If you require help in adding your story please talk to a member of staff who should be able to arrange for you to have some help.

We are sure that you will find this an interesting and valuable site with many unusual and thought provoking reminiscences.
