The following memories of Mrs. Mavis Hedger were recorded at the VE/VJ Celebrations event at the Castle Mound, The Embankment, Bedford on Saturday 13th August 2005.

鈥淢y maiden name was Mavis Bennett and I lived in Kempston, Bedford and we had people from the 大象传媒 Orchestra staying with us. His name was Harry Watson and his wife Winnie stayed with us and he played the french horn. And he used to practice his french horn and even as a tiny little girl I can remember sitting on the stairs listening to him practicing. They met at the Corn Exchange they used to broadcast from the Corn Exchange in Bedford. They remained with us for the remainder of the war and we remained friends with them until they died, we are still friendly with their children.

They went from London to Bristol and then Bristol got bombed so they came to Bedford. They used to rehearse all over the place. In the Co-op, the room over in Queen鈥檚 Park and everywhere. We used to listen on the radio. At the time I think I was too young to realise how important this area was. It was quite important. We remained friends with them and we used to go and visit them when they went back to London and they with us too.鈥�
