Welcome to the Bedford Museum People's War Page. We were awarded a grant from the HLF to collect World War 2 stories from as wide a selection of people as possible. After a series of outreach events, and by following up contacts we have recorded over 225 stories of which 50 are 'in depth'. These stories are from a range of people: children in the war, men and women in the Forces, workers in civilian services and evacuees and refugees.
As part of the project we have taken in almost 1,200 items: artefacts, photographs and documents, for recording or adding to museum collections.
We also held a WW2 Exhibition in August and September 2005.
We would still like to borrow photographs to scan on to the Memory Bank in the museum and would welcome WW2 memorabilia to be used in future displays.
We shall be holding a WW2 Day at the museum on Saturday 17th June 2006.
We are located in Castle Lane, Bedford. If you cannot get to us, phone Ann Hagen on 01234-353323 for details.
Thank you to all who gave their stories, and to volunteers who helped record them.
