My recollection after 60yrs of the Evacuation of myself C.J.A.PETIT, aged 11yrs nine months in June 1940, And the Family and the stay on the Mainland England, during the war years,
It was when V.E. day came that arrangements were made to return to Guernsey, we arrived back, and were put up by relations, Donald and Myself, with an Aunt and Uncle Who had a young son, and my Mother and Father with the girls and youngsters, to my Grandmother, My Mothers Mother, who also had a young son, and second husband. We were put up until my Fathers former employer (who had been a Lt Commander in the Royal Navy)and his wife, had their small cottage ,cleaned up, after the Germans left. who had lived there during the war years.
It was furnished with some of our own furniture, which had Been put in storage, and some which had been given back, from relations who looked after it during the occupation, but not all had been recovered After the five years, but we were very thankful.
