Mrs Easton was born on the 16th March 1900 in Lougueville near Deauville in Normandy. She had three brothers. They attended the village school, where there were many other children.

In 1914 Mrs Easton was fourteen and this is when World War One broke out, she can remember most things one of which was seeing many soldiers marching around the village. By this time unfortunately her three brothers had all died, they were all at a young age. During the first war, Mrs Easton continued to attend school every day. When the war was over Mrs Easton remained at School until she was eighteen years old. Once her Education had finished she thought she might work, she found this very difficult to do, as there was very little work for girls, so she would spend her time at home with her parents.

At nineteen years old she came over to England to learn English, when she was at school they had not taught her English. In England Mrs Easton went to work in Cheltenham she quotes 鈥渂eautiful place鈥, here she taught French, privately to children. This didn鈥檛 pay her much money and it certainly didn鈥檛 help her learn English, as she would spend most of her time speaking French. She admits that it was a struggle to pick up, but seemed to pick bits up along the way. After a few months of this lifestyle Mrs Easton got fed up and lonely, so she returned to France to her parents.

Her Father tried to get into the army, but was not fit enough. Her mother was a housewife. When Mrs Easton was twenty-five years old she married a man who was from England and was a jeweller in Barnstaple. She moved over there and lived there for many years. The couple didn鈥檛 have any children.

When World War two broke out Mrs Easton admits to taking no notice of the rationing etc, it didn鈥檛 worry her at all she puts it down to being young. Barnstaple was a very quiet place and it remained so in the war, she cannot recall any bombings nor can she remember any planes flying over.

Mrs Easton found Barnstaple very quiet maybe too quiet. She stayed here all her married life and would occasionally visit France to see her parents. She said she didn鈥檛 miss it really.

The war for Mrs Easton was a nice and quiet time, she cannot remember much else from the War.
