The ration book coupons had to be cut out by the shopkeeper. His stock was only replenished by the amount of coupons he handed in.
Grocers were accused of being tight, but if they didn鈥檛 get any coupons then they didn鈥檛 get any rations for the next week.
I had my own bike. I didn鈥檛 get an allowance for it.
None of them [ARP stations] had telephones. They were given buff envelopes, 12-20 at a time.
