Some years ago I wrote a book called "Around Cranleigh" In there reference is made to the LDVs later the Home Guard but now better known as "Dads Army". Five observation posts were set up at New Park, Holdhurst, Rowley Farm, Smithwood Common, and Bookhurst Hill.
Exercises took place in Baynards Park where the principal means of transport were bicycles.
Cranleigh's "E" company of the Home Guard included many with old Cranleigh family names like Buckman, Pullen,Mann, Killick, Cheesman, Eede, Tickner and Napper.
Women were also trained as auxiliaries in the Signal Section.
It would be good if your website could be used to trace some of the people who took part and were able to recall their personal memories of these times
