I got married on the 5th August - a month before war broke out. My husband then went into the forces in the April.

It was difficult planning a wedding in the wartime — I think you just had to do it there and then. My husband had to get married in uniform, so did my sister’s husband — and my sister borrowed my wedding dress, well you couldn’t get them in those days.
