I remember your brother [talking to Muriel] used to have a loft of pigeons, and neck them to make pigeon pies 鈥 the first horror was seeing them hopping round the field with no head on! He said 鈥淚t鈥檚 alright, it鈥檚 only their nerves.鈥 Then the next day I went up and they were hanging upside down by their legs and your Mum said 鈥渨ell, we鈥檝e got to bleed them before we can use the meat鈥 - that was one of the first horrors I witnessed in the countryside!
