I remember when we had the ‘Free French’ here and General De Gaulle was down the road in Ellesmere and we had the Free French, the Czechs and then the Americans came and that was totally different. Because we lived out in the country we didn’t see much of this until I went to high school, which was a bit later.

This story was submitted to the People’s War site by Becky Barugh of the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio Shropshire CSV Action Desk on behalf of Muriel Edwards and has been added to the site with her permission. The author fully understands the site's terms and conditions.
