PLODDER鈥橲 BOYS (By Norris Trout)

On the Red Sea shores on a track of sand
An ack ack gun site takes its stand
Manned by a section of high renown
Who never let the battery down

Whe pale moon rises above the Red Sea
It's heroes of ack ack they're longing to be
They work hard by day and fire hard by night
And really they are an inspiring sight

The silence is shattered in the early morning
By a bleary-eyed spotter sounding the warning
And ere the gong has finished sounding
Each man from his bed is bounding

Telephonists cheer at the message he's writing
The news is good and very exciting
With the courage of old you'll hear him say
There's plenty of Jerries heading this way

They've got two guns complete with gunfodder ,
And two lads in charge known as Freddie and Plodder
Manned by two gun crews who know their job well
All eagerly waiting to give Jerry hell

There's talk in the ranks of the crack section D
That soon they ill be quitting the shores of Red Sea
Though it may just be a rumour it rings very true
And the bettings odds on that they land up the blue

Now the news is not pleasing for the lads did their best
To make S8 gun site an haven of rest
They'd built many structures and dug up much sand
And for football and cricket they'd levelled off land

They were all looking forward when now their toil done
To grand social evenings, sports and good fun
All this of course twixt the manning of guns
And sending up presents for visiting Huns

It seems all these pleasures they'll have to forgo
Now that they're booked for a rip roaring show
In the mist of a desert where the goings rough
And for self preservation you've got to be tough

But are they downhearted not on your sweet life
They'll all pull their weight be there danger or strife
And Jerry will learn that the skies hold no joy
When in range of guns manned by Plodder's Boys.
