When the air raids came at our house in Moorside Lane Holbrook we did not have a shelter, what we used to do was go in the downstairs bathroom and there was a wooden lid over the bath, we used to put that down and put pillows and blankets over the top and thats where myself, mum and dad, Eliza and Ted Carrington and sisters Elsie and Lily slept. We would take turns to lie down. Looking back I don't know how it would have helped us had we been hit.
