During the war my mother, Edith Clifford
had to leave domestic service, and went to work at a children's home, located at the
convent in Stoke Golding. As mum knew lots of local farmers, having grown up in the village, she got lots of 'extras' such as fresh eggs, and made these orphans very happy with lovely birthday cakes.
