When I was at the Cofe School, a daylight air raid came over heading for Birmingham. The whole school were evacuated to the then Council Offices, down in their cella (sic).
I can remember only being able to have a 1lb of sweets per month. We had all been registered with a butcher, Grocery shop, and coal merchant. We were registered with Marsh & Baxter Butcher, and mid week on a Wednesday I had to go and stand in a que (sic) at 7.30am as the Butcher van was due in at 8am and wait in line to be able to buy sausages, any later and they would have been sold out. On a Sat (sic) morn we would go to the gasworks with anything that had wheels on to get a bag of coke.
I can remember all the air raid shelters in our close, every other house had one that was shared by two familys. Our shelter was in our neibours (sic) garden Mr & Mrs Barret.
I can also remember were (sic) the two concrete water tanks were, the one was by Meadows school and the other one was and still is down factory Lane Aston Fields, its on Mrs Hollics Ground. I can remember the 3 public airraid shelters on Recreation ground, were (sic) Asda is now. One down Worc鈥檚 street, by Bromsgrove School entrance.
I can remember lord Horhor, on the radio saying Germany would never bomb Bromsgrove as it is full of imbiseals (sic) and cripples, referring to the American hospital and Barnsley hospital.
I can also remember a young girl being murderd (sic) in School lane, they were seen in the George hotel. My mom worked their (sic), and the Police took my mom to all the American bases to identify the man she had been seen with. My mom did find him but because they thretand (sic) the family my mom could not say who he was.
