A Sunderland flying boat seen in Guernsey
Mr Ray Caradeuc interviewed by Margaret Le Cras
Transcribers note : Transcription difficult at times because interviewer was nearer the microphone and her interjections sometimes upstage Mr Le Caradeuc, who is rather faint. Where the interviewer’s comments are relevant they have been transcribed in full.
We were digging potatoes at the Creux Mahie, we could hear a terrific noise as if it was a plane coming out from the sea, and of course off we went right to the water, it was a Sunderland flying boat coming right through, and you could see the pilot! And I thought [ ]
I………. Well they mounted guns round there
Ray Caradeuc. And it shot up there and all the guns were firing! And it went down to [ ] , past [ ] and out to sea. My Dad said, he said, you could see the water, just like that. [ ] I think that was marvellous. And they blew the tower after that. You remember the tower? I spent hundreds of hours up there. We used to go up to the second window, and watch Noel flying, and landing, he used to take them for rides, eh, do you remember that?
I………. No, I don’t remember that
Ray Caradeuc. Not that part? He used to take a lot of people, and he used to do bunchos. [he said] he wished he had not done that, because it made a mess in his plane!
