I was a member of A coy no 2 War Office Signals. The men of our unit were already taking part in the D Day landings.I can remember the excitement of our switchboard and keyboard operators who were on duty in the underground operations room in Fort Southwick as they waited for the first messages to come from the wireless operators via VHV radio signal from Normandy. I was not personally involved as I was the Orderlyroom Sgt but got the news from our CSM when she came off duty. We never heard how our signal unit made out. I still have my underground security pass.
