I joined the ATS in Nov 1939 aged 17years 6 monthsinEdinburgh and worked firstly in the records office. move on 2 years and now a Sgt clerk i asked for a posting as anorderly room Sgt.Iwas posted to No2 War Offics Signals A coy, based at Fort Widley,Cosham,Hants. This was a mixed unit which was a big change. I really enjoyed my time there particularly in thr run up to D.Day.Most of our men took part in the D.Day operations and after a few weeks we were mostly posted on to other units. Ifinished up as CSM WO2 at no4 command Signals, Taunton Somerset. Finally I was demobbed inNov 1945 6 years afterjoining. I then got married in Dec.1945,and have lived in Glasgow ever since.
