I remember in the War when i was a child living at Dinedor a couple of miles from Rotherwas when a bomb went off at the munitions factory it made a huge noise i was stood out in the yard at my house and debris was flying over our heads my mother and a friend was with me and we watched all the metal and wood going over us not thinking how dangerous it was and when my father came home from work on the railway he found pieces of wood all over his vegetable garden another time I remember a bomb being dropped on the factory by a German plane on his way home it killed a family living in a house near by except one boy who was sleeping somewhere else that night I think he is still alive today my connection with croft castle is through my sister who died last year at the age of 94 she was a servant at croft in her young days and met her husband there who went into the army and ended up at Dunkirk he couldn鈥檛 swim so someone towed him to the ship holding on to a belt he had his possessions in an oxo tin he had some leave and was then sent back abroad
