All of the stories written below were contributed to the People's War website during a WW2 weekend at Croft Castle, Herefordshire, which took place on 22-23 May 2004. Contributors included Joan Christophers, who was among ground staff looking after barrage balloons along the south and north east coast; and Diane Boon whose father was one of Churchill's bodyguards.

The stories were written up in two IT buses: one belonging to the Nacro Net Navigator Project, the other to Worcestershire County Council Adult Learning. Members of the public were helped by Richard Morgan of Worcs CC, Ioan Wittman of Nacro, and representatives of Learndirect West Midlands.
