I remember the cinema I went 3 times a week it was the only form of entertainment. I went to the Green Lane cinema with my mother it isn't there any more. As we came back, we lived in Lancaster Street as we were walking a day told us a house in Jericoe Rd. had been bombed completely but everyone in the family had survived because they were at the cinema.
I worked at Freeman Hardy and Willis at Lancaster Street later. I remember being at St. Barnabas School and we had beds in the play ground in summer time and in winter the beds were in the hall. It was a school tradition and we put all our shoes under the bed - I was only 3. We had air raid shelters at the bottom of the garden and they were built underground at the back of the garden. Bombers used to go to Coventry.
