Marjorie May Perkins talking to UCN Community Volunteer (Jackie Holmes) at Gabriel Court, Kettering, Northamptonshire.
I can remember putting on concerts during the war. They included character sketches to the troops. One occasion that I can recall involved putting on a concert to a Northants regiment. I was dressed as an old lady鈥 Mrs Hopkins joins the choir!鈥 the troops loved it. They were all funny sketches we did it to cheer them up.
My official job was working at KC Clothing, in Dryden Street. I worked in the office, as a receptionist and all sorts of clerical work. They made uniforms for the war effort. The King and Queen came and visited one day during the war to keep spirits up. The Marquees of Exeter had the time of his life going around kissing the girls.
My last job was registering births deaths and marriages at Kettering Registry officer. Children were born at St Marys Hospital at the maternity clinic.
