We were put off at Brisbane, Australia because we were no longer required in the Phillipines. As I walked along the main Street in Brisbane an old boy (about 60) sat on the running board of his van and shouted to me - "where are you from son?" I said Lancashire - he said "where from?" I said Manchester. "Where from?" I said Salford - "where about?"
Cross Lane I said. "Where abouts"? West High Street I said. "Where abouts he said?" I told him my actual address. "What he said?!" The last house in West High Street next to Jimmy Southwood, the paper shop?.
Yes I said - you know where I live then? "Yes" he said. How come I asked.
"That he was in the TA on Cross Lane and Jimmy Southwood was his mate!
