T(H)ANKS FOR THE MEMORY (By Norris Trout)
A report came o'er the phone which caused
Excitement in the ranks
It said that in the desert loose
Were thirty hostile tanks
The officers a conference held
On how to meet this plight
And very soon they'd all agreed
To mobilise the site
They called on all the riflemen
Who numbered but a score
They said a vigil they must keep
And report on ought they saw
Bish and Plodder were in heaven
Way back home God how they'd swank
Of how in minutes they had changed
Ack ack to anti tank
The riflemen were on patrol
Were shadows in the dark
And of these one came up to me
A Scotsman Gunner Park
He said 鈥淒on't put your trust in me
For if you do you'll cop it
Cause if a tank approaches me
I'm damned if I shall stop it"
Although I had no rifle
I was not a bit dismayed
For I had a secret weapon
A trump card yet unplayed
For I held a biscuit in my hand
One of Arnott's special snacks
And if a tank should pass near me
I'd push it in its tracks
But now the dangers over
The air force stopped the rot
So from Yorker to the R.A.F.
We all say t(h)anks a lot.
