I started work for Brittan Pash in Market Road in 1941, working on farm equipment (aged 14) with a man named Ernie Candler from Roxwell. One night a bomb fell in King Edward Avenue. Our manager who lived in a house attached to the site was killed and all the glass in the workshop was blown out.
