I remmber it well, It was June 1940 We all got on the bus out side our school At New Addington
we all had labels on our clothes with our names on, clutching a suitcase, some of the children were crying, And mums were as well
I can't remember the train journey, but I do remember when we arrived at our destination
It was Ifracombe North Devon,
It was late at night it was dark I felt very frightend I was 11yrs old There seem to be loads of people milling about the village hall The next thing I remember Is getting into a car with about 4 or 5 other children, every so often it stopped to let some one out Then it was my turn I was billeted with two sisters. and another girl I did not know them I remember sharing the double bed.
I felt sorry for the lady she was in her late sixties and never had any children of her own because she had two spare rooms, she had to take the four of us.
I wil tell you later how we all got on
