Evacuation
Every Sunday morning we would go for a walk to the sea front with Mr Morris while Mrs Morris cooked the dinner. We would walk from Hove to Brighton and when we got there we would take it in turns to be in Hove or Brighton or to stand with one foot in Hove and one foot in Brighton.
Our Mum and Dad would come and visit us in their car quite regularly.
We only went to school for half of the day because we had to share premises with another school. For the other half of the day we would be taken for walks or go to the cinema.
I did get into trouble once whist we were evacuated. Jo and I were delving into the cupboard under the stairs at 39 Rutland Road when we found a hand bell. I decided that it would be good fun to go to the back gate and ring it LOUDLY, 1 wondered why everyone was running along the road. Nobody had told me that bell ringing was the signal for a gas attack/invasion!
