AGed 17 i was called up an was sent to putney signals unit , and was billeted in a local house . after one night the sgt majaor called me over to him and said that the lady i was billeted had the first day pf war had just heard that her son had been killed and could i go somwhere else and he could no help me. so i said that i lived en peckham and would come and go by bike. he agreed and evey morning for one month i got on my bike with rifle and pack and i made it to the triangle at peckham where i waited for a 37 bus and travelled in its slipstream all the way to putney. and i used to be on 9am unit parade.
I was then transrerred to duke of yors hq in chealsea and then to london area signal co
