The story was submitted to People's War website by Age Concern Salford on behalf of the contributor, and has given her permission. My lasting memory of the war is our father taking up the floor boards in the hall. We had deep foundations and making bunk beds for us to sleep there during the blitz. As little ones. He took us outside to see all the sky lit up when manchester was blitzed. We were sent to our aunts in the Pennines. I had to attend the catholic school. I was unhappy as we were C of E. We came back home when our father joined the force. We had a bomb dropped on the house opposite. We were taken out of our home by the ARP to an unused hall where we slept on little beds. Then off to stay with Auntie again. They were days that I'll never forget but we were all together.
